Swatch Palettes

Swatch palettes allow you to store frequently-used colors and access them while drawing. The swatch palette appears in the right sidebar in the main editor. You can also use swatch palettes when converting an image to indexed color.

Click a swatch to select the foreground color. Right-click (Ctrl+click on Mac) to select the background color. Double-click to edit its color.

Palette Editor

The Palette Editor (Tools -> Palette Editor) allows you to view, edit, delete, import, and export color palettes.

Swatch palette edit mode

You can edit the current swatch palette directly in the main window by clicking Edit. This will allow you to drag swatches to reorder.

Quick Palette

The Color Picker includes two automatically-generated palettes: Quick Palette which you can add colors to while picking colors, and Recently Used which automatically adds the last color you chose for other purposes. Both of them can be saved as a permanent swatch palette.

Classic Paint Palette

If you prefer the classic "Paint style" palette at the bottom or top of the screen, you can access it via View -> Classic Palette.

Generating swatches from the current image

You can generate a swatch palette from the current image by clicking Color -> Swatches from Image...

If the image already has a palette, it will be copied to the swatch palette automatically. If it does not, a palette will be generated using the options you specify.
