Text Tool

The Text tool allows you to put text anywhere on your image.

Operation

Click and drag to outline the area in which you want to type text. Once you have outlined the area, you can begin typing. You can resize the area using the handles at any time.

To place the text on the image, either click outside of the text area or click the Text Tool button in the toolbox.

Formatting

The text tool uses the current foreground color to color the text. You may choose a new color at any time.

You can specify the font, size, style, and alignment via the Format menu.

Text Effects

You can apply effects to your text to make it look better. These are accessible via the Effect menu in the text toolbox.

None

Choose this to disable effects.

Outline

The text will follow the outline and fill behavior specified in the Format menu. The foreground color will be used for the outline and the background color will be used for fill.

Shadow

A smooth drop shadow will be added behind your text, with a slight offset.

Simple Shadow

A simple shadow will be added behind your text, using the background color.

Glow

The text will glow with its foreground color. This effect is most noticeable with bright colors on a dark background.

Sponge

The text will have the appearance of a sponge applying paint through a stencil.

Gradient

A horizontal or vertical gradient will be applied to the text, using the foreground and background colors.

Background Effects

Background effects apply to the area behind the text. You can apply them independently of the text effects described above.

Transparent

The text background will be fully transparent.

Solid

The text background will use the background color. You can specify semi-transparent colors.

Rounded

The text background will use the background color with rounded corners. You can specify semi-transparent colors.

Average Color

The text background will be the average of colors behind it. This can help ensure that the text is visible over a complex background while still somewhat blending in. While you could use the Solid option and manually choose a color, the advantage of this effect is that the calculation is done automatically.

Blur

The text background will blur what is behind it, helping the text stand out.
