Format

The Format menu contains commands for customizing the way image manipulation tools work.

Border Style

Keyboard Shortcut: N/A

Allows you to select the border dash style of the current tool. This applies to lines drawn on the image using the Line, Rectangle, Bezier Curve, and other tools.

You can choose from predefined options or define your own custom pattern. Patterns are defined in terms of line widths; the pattern "1 1" corresponds to one line width "on" and one line width "off", resulting in a dotted line.

Fill Style

Keyboard Shortcut: N/A

Allows you to select the fill, or shading, of the current tool. This applies to filled areas such as those created by the Rectangle or Basic Brush tools.

A list of commonly-used patterns is provided in the submenu. You can also select from the full range of patterns provided by GDI+ by clicking the "Custom" command.

2-color Border and Fill

Keyboard Shortcut: None

Border and fill patterns can be rendered in 1-color or 2-color mode. This command selects between them.

In 1-color mode, the foreground color is used for the border, the background color is used for the fill, and any parts of the image that are excluded by the pattern are visible through it.

In 2-color mode, both the foreground and background color are used in the pattern and fill.

Font

Keyboard Shortcut: None

Specifies the font, size, and style for the Text tool.

Text Alignment

Keyboard Shortcut: None

Specifies the alignment of the text within the Text tool.

Transparency Editing Mode

Keyboard Shortcut: None

Specifies the transparency editing mode to use.

Transparency Compositing Mode

Keyboard Shortcut: None

Specifies how the editor treats transparent colors specified in the Color Picker.

Blend

Blends the source color with the current pixels in the image, essentially layering the color over the image.

Overwrite

Renders the exact color specified, including the alpha channel.

Selection Compositing Mode

Keyboard Shortcut: None

Specifies how transparent regions in the selection are treated. Note that you can accomplish a similar effect by using the Color > Swap Alpha and Mask command.

Replace

Allows the selection to move transparent pixels as-is.

Overlay

Renders the selection over the current image, blending semitransparent colors.

Smooth Edges

Keyboard Shortcut: None

When enabled, rough edges of lines and shapes will be anti-aliased.
