Layers

Enable Layers

Specifes whether or not the layer functionality is available for use. If disabled, only single-layer images can be edited.

Always show layer list even for single-layer images

If enabled, the layer list is always shown. If disabled, the layer list only appears when the image contains more than one layer.

Compact layer list

If enabled, the layer list does not show an image preview; instead it only shows the name of the layer. This allows more layers to fit into the layer list and improves performance, but makes it harder to see the contents of the layer.

Layer renderer

The layer renderer is the code that takes all layers' image data and combines it into the final image. Changing the renderer will determine the features (such as blending modes) that are available as well as the performance of the system. If you choose a renderer that does not support all features, you will receive a warning when you try to open an existing image that relies on those features. For most users this should be left at the default value.
